A Former Prison Opens to the Public
Nara Prison Museum by Hoshino Resorts opens April 27!
The sheer volume of exhibits is astounding!
There are also artworks that use the prison setting itself as part of the presentation.
The facility is expected to attract 1 million visitors a year in the future.
Missing the Expo? This may be just the place for you.
Only 30 people can enter each day.
We had the opportunity to report from this special area!
Central Guard Station
At the heart of the building, guards could monitor all five cell wings at a glance!
Because all but one preserved wing will become part of a hotel, only overnight guests will normally be able to enter this area!
However, a tour limited to 30 people per day offers access to this special area with an advance reservation.
It is a rare experience, with just 10 people admitted per session.
As of April 20, reservations are open through October 17, six months ahead.
There are plenty of openings as of today, but the reservation slots will probably fill up quickly after the museum opens.

With extensive materials on the history of the prison and the lives of the juveniles held there, many visitors may also sense echoes of the Expo in the way the exhibits are presented.
Even if you miss out on a reservation for the special area, there is plenty to enjoy elsewhere, so do not worry.
