Summer festival parades from the six Tohoku prefectures were held at the Osaka-Kansai Expo EXPO Arena "Matsuri"!

Sendai's parade started with an opening performance by Date Masamune.

June 15, 2025—The Osaka-Kansai Expo venue transformed into a "Summer Festival Wonderland"!

The "Tohoku Kizuna Festival Parade," featuring traditional summer festivals representing the six Tohoku prefectures, was held spectacularly at the EXPO Arena!

This was a special event held to express hope for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and to convey gratitude for support from around the world.

The Aomori Nebuta Festival, the Akita Kanto Festival, the Morioka Sansa Dance, the Sendai Tanabata Festival, the Yamagata Hanagasa Festival, the Fukushima Waraji Festival—all gathered together in one place—something only possible at the Expo!

◇A breathtaking spectacle! The parade starts with a "giant Kanto"
The parade kicked off with the "Akita Kanto Festival" from Akita Prefecture.
The audience gasped in amazement and applause at the incredible skill of the performers balancing the 12-meter-tall, 50-kg Kanto on their shoulders, foreheads, and waists.

Furthermore, their ability to maintain perfect balance even in the wind was truly masterful!

The atmosphere in the venue instantly heated up.

◇Summer dances of Tohoku graced the venue
Next up was the "Morioka Sansa Dance," captivating the audience with its colorful costumes and powerful drumming.

With the chant of "Sakkora Choiwayasse!", the energetic performances continued.

At the Yamagata Hanagasa Festival, a graceful group dance appeared, with dancers twirling their flower-decorated hats!
The dancers, dressed in costumes matching the Hanagasa Taiko drums, looked as if they had stepped right out of an illustrated scroll.

At the Sendai Tanabata Festival, magnificent Tanabata decorations swayed, and the light steps of the Suzume Odori dance filled the venue with smiles.

And at the Fukushima Waraji Festival, a giant straw sandal measuring 12 meters and weighing 2 tons appeared!
The "Waraji Odori" dance, performed to the accompaniment of live flute and drum music, was truly spectacular!

And finally, the grand finale was, of course, the Aomori Nebuta Festival!

With the chant of "Rassera! Rassera!", the Haneto dancers leaped and danced with boundless energy, bringing the venue to a fever pitch!

◇Experience the Festival Parade on a Circular Course!
The parade utilized the circular course around the EXPO Arena, allowing spectators to enjoy the festival's excitement up close from anywhere.
Approximately 550 dancers performed their routines one after another over 50 minutes, creating a dream tour show reminiscent of the "Tohoku Summer Festival All-Stars"!

◇Bringing Tohoku's Power to the World: The Significance of the Special Event
This "Tohoku Kizuna Festival" is an event that began with the combined efforts of the six Tohoku prefectures to convey their recovery from the earthquake and their gratitude to the world.
This festival, which has been held annually in the capital cities of the six Tohoku prefectures, was held this year as a "special outreach event" on the stage of the Expo!

Gourmet food, traditional culture, natural beauty, the charm of the people… These few days were filled with the charm of Tohoku.
It was a heartwarming time, as if the Expo venue had instantly become "Tohoku's summer."
