“THE WORLD OF BIOHAZARD 30th Anniversary Exhibition” runs from Friday, October 30 through Thursday, December 24, 2026, at BEAM Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo. Celebrating 30 years of the hit survival-horror game series known internationally as Resident Evil, it is the first large-scale exhibition of its kind in the world.

Resident Evil 30th Anniversary Exhibition

We attended the press conference and preview on Thursday, October 29, ahead of the public opening! Inside, you’ll find exhibits tracing three decades of the series, a theater showcasing memorable scenes, and life-size figures that look as though they’ve stepped straight out of the games. Character-inspired crepes and drinks are also available. Here are the highlights we explored before opening day!

Three guests took the stage: Masachika Kawata, producer of Capcom’s Resident Evil series; comedian Eiko Kano; and voice actor Toshiyuki Morikawa, the Japanese voice of Leon S. Kennedy.

Kano said the experience brings back memories: meeting not only the characters on display panels but also the creatures feels like saying “Long time no see!” at a reunion.

Kawata highlighted material about the viruses that has never been shared before, along with an extraordinarily large figure created especially for the exhibition.

Morikawa noted that following the story through the exhibits helps visitors recall all kinds of moments from the series. Each guest shared a different reason to explore.

30 Years of Resident Evil: The World’s First Major Exhibition Opens in Shibuya

The first Resident Evil game launched in 1996. What began with an incident at a mansion later expanded to a city and then to the wider world.

As of June 30, 2026, total sales across the series had reached 213 million copies. The exhibition revisits 30 years of fear and infection through video, artifacts, and sculpted figures. It is divided into four main areas.

Lineage of Fear | Revisit 30 Years of Incidents and History

The first area, “Lineage of Fear,” traces the story from a single mansion incident through Raccoon City and on to events around the globe. Memorable scenes and archival materials from past games show how the universe expanded over the years. Longtime players will particularly enjoy revisiting familiar games and characters.

THE WORLD OF BIOHAZARD Theater | Relive the Games on Giant Screens

Next comes the “THE WORLD OF BIOHAZARD Theater.”

This theater projects scenes from earlier games onto three large screens, with key moments appearing in quick succession across all three. It is hard to take everything in at once: the three-minute presentation feels like something you’ll want to watch more than once!

It’s that impressive. As incidents from throughout the series unfold chronologically, visitors are drawn into the Resident Evil universe. Seeing familiar game scenes on this exhibition-scale display is a highlight in itself.

Evidence of Fear | Viruses, Parasites, and Mold Brought to Life

“Evidence of Fear” explores the viruses, parasites, and mold found throughout the series.

Documents and three-dimensional displays introduce the terrifying threats that appeared in the games.

The Virus That Started It All

Learn about the t-Virus developed by Umbrella, the disasters caused by infection, and their consequences. It’s a chance to revisit the role that viruses have played in driving the series’ stories.

Facing the Parasites

This section introduces Las Plagas and the creatures they produce.

And then a Licker suddenly appears! Keep your eyes fixed on the monitor in this section.

Don’t forget to look up, either. Lickers often lurk overhead, don’t they? There’s one right above you, drooling from above… Whatever you do, don’t make noise or run!

The sheer size of the Proto Tyrant may also surprise you. Be sure to look carefully near its feet.

On the left is a Green Herb, and hiding on the right is… a Mr. Raccoon! But would anyone really dare pick up that herb in this situation? Mr. Raccoon appears in more than one spot, so see if you can find the others yourself. You might be surprised where one is hiding!

As you head into the next room, there’s a photograph of S.T.A.R.S. This detail is easy to miss, so take a careful look.

Then, when you pull back the curtain… those lasers! How many players have been taken out by this trap? You’ll probably want to photograph it and imagine stepping into the game.

The same scene appeared in Eiko Kano’s illustration introducing his recommended area. Considering he drew it in just one minute, the result was remarkable—even Chris’s hairstyle was captured nicely.

At the end of this area is a life-size figure of Albert Wesker. Seeing one of the series’ most iconic characters up close is a highlight.

He’s a formidable enemy, but if he weren’t a villain, you’d have to admit he’s strikingly handsome! Seeing him in person really brought that home. Opportunities to examine the figure so closely are rare, so don’t stop at a front-facing view—take a look from the side, too.

There is also a display panel about Wesker, so don’t miss it!

Unusual Mold and Hallucinations

Giant Lady Dimitrescu figure

This section features a seated figure of Alcina Dimitrescu created specifically for the exhibition! Reproduced at an imposing approximately 290 cm tall, everything is scaled to her proportions. Photos can hardly convey the size, but standing beside her for a picture should help. Even her wineglass is enormous, as this comparison with a regular glass shows.

Eiko Kano remarked how heavy the glass was—it looks big enough to hold an entire bottle of wine!

There is also a photo spot where Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard appears to burst through a wall. Stand at the photo marker on the floor, and you can capture a shot that makes it look as though Jack has just leapt out to attack you. Give it a try to experience the game’s fear in a physical space.

Memories of Those Who Fought Back | Life-Size Leon S. Kennedy Makes His World Debut!

“Memories of Those Who Fought Back” focuses on the series’ protagonists, looking back at the people who survived its many incidents and the memories they carry.

Character panels are also on display, so take a photo beside your favorite character.

A major highlight is the world-first unveiling of a life-size Leon S. Kennedy figure! From the Raccoon City incident onward, Leon has faced countless crises. Seeing him recreated in three dimensions is a must for fans.

You can also see a sculpted figure of Grace Ashcroft from Resident Evil Requiem. Just be careful what’s behind you when taking photos here!

30th Anniversary Merchandise Is Also Available!

The exhibition sells original items commemorating the 30th anniversary, giving longtime fans another reason to browse after seeing the exhibits.

The Licker slippers are sure to stand out!

We recommend the clear file folder and shopping bag featuring the exhibition’s key visual. They’re an accessible way to take home event merchandise.

My personal pick is the ink-ribbon-shaped sound keychain. It plays the music heard in the save room! Hearing it brings back that wonderful sense of relief: at least in that room, neither Tyrants nor Lickers can get to you.

A special ticket option includes a framed pin set featuring packaging artwork from games throughout the series. From the first entry to the latest, it’s a collectible that captures the franchise’s history.
