Once inside, the layout is simple: follow the main street straight from Hogsmeade to Hogwarts Castle, so you are unlikely to get lost.
However, there are alleys, paths, and other side routes where you may discover all kinds of details.
The entrances to the attractions are marked with large red circles.
1: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
2: Flight of the Hippogriff
3: Ollivanders
There are eight shops.
You can find takeout food near Ollivanders.
Hogwarts Express

The Hogwarts Express, which carried Harry and his friends from London’s King’s Cross Station to Hogsmeade Station near Hogwarts in the films, welcomes you.
You can use magic to make it release steam.
It is also a popular photo spot where you can pose with the conductor.
Hogwarts Castle

You can actually enter Hogwarts Castle. It serves as the boarding area for an attraction.
You can also enjoy views of the castle from many places, including the Three Broomsticks, the waterfront, and aboard Flight of the Hippogriff.
The Weasleys’ Car

Before entering Hogsmeade, you will find the flying Ford Anglia.
It has come to a stop after crashing into a tree.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry and Ron crashed it into the Whomping Willow, damaged it, and it sped off into the forest.
It is a popular commemorative photo spot.
Restrooms and Moaning Myrtle

There are two restrooms in the Harry Potter area.
Moaning Myrtle appears in both.
As Muggles, we cannot see Myrtle’s ghost, but we can hear her voice clearly.
In the films she appeared in a girls’ restroom at Hogwarts, but in the Harry Potter area you can hear her in the men’s restroom as well.
Owlery

Owl post is an important means of communication in the Harry Potter world.
There are also many owls in the Harry Potter area.
An owl emerges from the clock tower and hoots once every 15 minutes.
It returns almost immediately, so do not miss it.
Ride Attractions in USJ’s Harry Potter Area

The Harry Potter area has two ride attractions and one show attraction.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

This is the most popular attraction in the Harry Potter area.
Realistically recreated Hogwarts Castle and surrounding buildings, Dementors, a dragon, and a snake
You soar around a Quidditch match in high-resolution video.

As you fly alongside Harry like a Quidditch player, Dementors attack you just as they do in the films.

Four guests ride together in one vehicle.
Because it rotates in many directions, guests prone to motion sickness may want to take motion-sickness medicine before riding.

Before boarding, you walk through Hogwarts Castle.
You pass through locations from the films, including Professor Dumbledore’s office and galleries of moving portraits.
See the following article for details and highlights of the attraction.
Flight of the Hippogriff

A famous scene shows the Hippogriff Hagrid keeps, named Buckbeak, attacking Malfoy during a lesson about showing Hippogriffs respect.
This legendary creature has the traits of an eagle and a horse: the front half is an eagle and the rear half a horse, said to be born of a griffin and a mare.
Just as Harry rode on its back and flew, guests can enjoy an aerial journey with a Hippogriff.

Hagrid’s hut can be seen along the attraction queue.
Hogwarts Castle Walk

The Castle Walk, which lets you explore the inside of Hogwarts Castle, has returned.
Because this experience does not involve a ride, children under 122 cm tall and anyone prone to motion sickness can enjoy it with confidence.
Approximate duration: 20 minutes. A careful, detailed visit may take 45 minutes or more.
Event period: Monday, July 15, 2024–December 31, 2024

Death Eaters: Crisis in Hogsmeade

On an autumn night, Death Eaters, Voldemort’s followers, appear one after another in Hogsmeade.
The Dark Mark appears above Hogwarts Castle.

A fierce battle unfolds between the people of Hogsmeade and the Death Eaters.
The Death Eaters also point their wands at guests.
Once they realized we were Muggles, they merely watched us, but…

A Death Eater emerged from green light and tried to drive the Muggles away.
Could something be hidden farther inside?
Event period: Friday, September 6–Monday, November 4, 2024
The photos were taken during the Death Eaters in Hogsmeade experience at Universal Studios Hollywood in fall 2023.

How to Experience It

Death Eaters: Crisis in Hogsmeade is the type of show performed periodically after dark.
If Death Eaters are stationed throughout Hogsmeade, they may remain present continuously like Street Zombies.
Because large crowds are expected, admission restrictions may be imposed, making an area timed-entry ticket necessary to enter the Harry Potter area.
Hogwarts Magical Night: Winter Magic

Hogwarts Magical Night: Winter Magic, first held in winter 2019, returns after five years.
Wizarding-school students appear and cast various spells on Hogwarts Castle to delight guests.
Enjoy a beautiful projection-mapping show on a winter night.

Three Broomsticks

The Three Broomsticks also appears in the films.
The interior is a little dim, but the restaurant is packed with details, including hidden appearances by Dobby.

On a pleasant day, dining on the terrace is a great option.
For a group of four adults, or even five if everyone has a smaller appetite, the Great Feast offers good value.
See the following article for the latest full menu and prices.
Butterbeer

Butterbeer is famous for the scene in which Hermione gets a foam mustache. Despite the word “beer” in its name, it is nonalcoholic and can be enjoyed by children.
You can buy it at the Three Broomsticks or at a dedicated outdoor stand.
Frozen Butterbeer is generally available from May through summer.
Butterbeer 10th Anniversary Mug

It was offered with two types of premium mugs celebrating the 10th anniversary.
A plant-based Butterbeer also made its debut.
Takeout Food

There is one takeout-food location in the Harry Potter area.
House-themed churros have also been sold here in the past.
The menu changes regularly, giving you something new to enjoy on repeat visits.
Wizarding Experience: Cast Magic with a Wand

Use a wand to cast many kinds of magic, including fire, snow, wind, water, levitation, and unlocking doors.
Buy a Wand

You can purchase a wand at Ollivanders.
You can simply choose one in the shop, or enjoy the attraction experience before buying.
During the attraction, the person chosen by a wand has a magical experience and then receives the opportunity to buy a wand in a special box.
The price is the same whether you buy a regular wand or one in the special box.
However, several guests enter the shop together, and only the one person chosen by Mr. Ollivander, the wandkeeper, can purchase the selected wand through the attraction.
Eight Places to Cast Magic

There are eight places where spells are marked on the ground. Head to one of these locations.
Only guests carrying a wand may join the line.
Cast a Spell

Move your wand while saying the spell.
The wand movement differs for each spell, but instructions are shown at each location, so you can follow them as you cast.
At some locations, a wizarding instructor will teach you the correct incantation and wand movement.
A perfect attempt triggers the full magical effect, while a partial success produces a smaller effect.

Area Timed-Entry Tickets and Guaranteed-Entry Passes

Admission to the Harry Potter area is restricted during exceptionally busy periods.
At those times, only guests who obtained an area timed-entry ticket inside the park or a guaranteed-entry pass through a travel agency or Express Pass can enter.
Once admitted, you may stay until you leave the area, with no time limit.
Can You Enter Freely?
In 2026, there have been no days when a timed-entry ticket or guaranteed-entry pass was required.
More than 10 years have passed since the area opened, and frequent shows keep visitors moving, so entry remains smooth even when the area is crowded.
You can easily enter the Harry Potter area without an Express Pass.
Depending on the time of day, waits for attractions and the restaurant can still be long.
Where Can You Buy Harry Potter Souvenirs?

Harry Potter merchandise and sweets are available at shops inside the Harry Potter area.
A smaller Harry Potter merchandise section is also available in a gift shop near the USJ entrance.
Buying your items inside the Harry Potter area is recommended when possible.
You can purchase wizarding-school robes, brooms, postcards, sweets, and more.
Take-home desserts are also available.
How Is It Different from Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo?

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, which opened in Tokyo in June 2023, recreates film studios used for the Harry Potter movies. Some authentic pieces were transported from the United Kingdom.
The facility is larger than its counterpart in the United Kingdom.
What Studio Tour Tokyo Has That USJ Does Not
It has Platform 9¾ and Hogwarts Express passenger cars, which are not at USJ.
The locomotive at the front actually operated in the United Kingdom and was shipped to Japan by sea.
You can also walk into the Forbidden Forest and try an experience involving the Expecto Patronum spell.
At USJ, you fly into the forest during the attraction, and Harry casts the spell.
The Ministry of Magic is not at the U.K. tour and debuted at Studio Tour Tokyo. I stayed from opening until shortly before closing, about 10 hours.
Diagon Alley is not at USJ either, but Hogsmeade has similar shops, so the atmosphere feels comparable.
What USJ’s Harry Potter Area Has That Studio Tour Tokyo Does Not
USJ offers ride attractions and hands-on magical experiences.
Flight of the Hippogriff is a roller coaster, so it delivers some thrills.
Studio Tour Tokyo currently does not offer those kinds of experiences.
Studio Tour Tokyo instead lets you enjoy more realistic film sets.
See this article for the major differences and touring tips.

Tokyo Skytree reportedly cost US$250.00 million to build.

Why Would the Harry Potter Area Close? Is It Going Away?
For some reason, “USJ Harry Potter closing reason” appears as a related Google search phrase.
It is completely false, but apparently many people search for it.
Some speculate that USJ’s area might close because Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo opened, while people unfamiliar with USJ worry that its location next to Super Nintendo World means it could be replaced by a Donkey Kong area.
There are probably many other rumors, such as the idea that it will become a Fantastic Beasts area.
For reference, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, which closed in January 2024, reportedly had a 20-year contract with Marvel.
The Harry Potter area would likely need a contract of at least 20 years to recover its investment, so it probably would not close before 2036 at the earliest. The area opened in April 2016.
A 30-year contract would keep it open even longer.
