Many popular attractions at Universal Studios Japan have long waits, but there are also times when you can ride with a shorter wait.
We’ve summarized the times of day when each attraction tends to have shorter waits.
Use this as a guide when deciding your ride order and planning your day at Universal Studios Japan.

For attractions that have long waits all day except immediately after opening, ride them right after the park opens or purchase an Express Pass.

Hollywood Dream – The Ride
Hollywood Dream – The Ride, often nicknamed “Haridori” in Japan, is designed to give riders a floating sensation.
Because fewer people ride immediately after eating, waits are often shorter during lunchtime.
■ Weekdays
Until 11:00 a.m.: 45–60-minute wait
12:00–1:00 p.m.: 20–45-minute wait
After 2:00 p.m.: 40–80 minutes
■ Weekends
Around 11:00 a.m.: 130–150-minute wait
Around 12:00–1:00 p.m.: 90–120-minute wait
After 2:00 p.m.: 120–150-minute wait

This is when many attractions have their longest waits.
Try to avoid the most popular attractions during this period.
Even among popular attractions, high-capacity 4-D theaters tend to avoid extremely long waits and are a good choice.
Recommended Attractions at Night
During nighttime parade or Halloween Horror Nights periods, some guests head to the parade or horror attractions.
Many annual passholders with children also leave around 5:00 p.m., so attraction waits generally become shorter after 6:00 p.m.
Among them, we especially recommend attractions that have long daytime waits but can be experienced with much shorter waits at night.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Even on days when the wait exceeds two hours from around 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., weekend waits can sometimes drop to 30 minutes or less at night.
On weekdays, you may be able to experience it with a wait of 15 minutes or less.

At night, the wait may drop to 30 minutes or less on weekends and 10–15 minutes on weekdays.
The nighttime view of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is another highlight.
However, Hagrid’s hut may be a little difficult to see from the queue at night.

Wait Times for Kids’ Attractions
Here are typical wait times for each attraction on a busy weekend if you do not visit during a less crowded period.
Universal Wonderland Attractions

・Hello Kitty’s Cupcake Dream
15–30 minutes

Show Attractions
Some show attractions have fixed start times, while others are repeated at regular intervals.
Universal Monsters Live Rock and Roll Show
You will usually be able to enter if you arrive 30 minutes before the show starts.
Guests who want a front-row seat may begin lining up about two hours in advance.
WaterWorld
In winter, you may be able to enter even five minutes before the show starts.
Outside winter, arrive at least 30 minutes early.
SING on Tour
Get a timed-entry ticket. On busy days, they may run out during the morning.
On quieter days, the show may operate at scheduled times.

Actual Wait Times
You can check real-time wait times in the official USJ app.
Previously, wait times could not be viewed outside the park, but now you can check them without entering USJ.
Many people want to know the actual wait rather than the posted wait.
USJ often builds extra time into the waits shown at attraction entrances and in the app.
For example, a posted wait of 140 minutes has sometimes turned out to be about 70 minutes—roughly half as long.
However, a posted 70-minute wait may still take 60 minutes, so there is no fixed difference between the displayed and actual waits.
In many cases, the actual wait is shorter than the posted time.
Possible reasons include:
・Longer-than-posted waits can lead to dissatisfaction or complaints.
・Extra time allows for delays caused by guests stumbling while boarding or exiting, lost items, illness, or other issues.
・The estimate accounts for Express Pass users.
When Actual Waits Tend to Be Shorter
About 30 minutes after opening, the posted waits for popular attractions that draw a rush of guests tend to be longer than the actual waits.
Possible reasons include:
・Express Pass use may not have started yet, so the line moves more smoothly than during the day.
・System issues are less likely early in the day.
・Some attractions experience delays during the day because of staff changes or breaks, but not first thing in the morning.
・Many guests join the line at once, leaving larger gaps between people and making the queue look longer.
（Wait estimates are believed to be based partly on queue length.）
Posted waits also tend to be longer than actual waits near closing time or during the daytime on very quiet days.
Possible reasons include:
・The number of people joining the line drops quickly, and the posted time has not yet been updated.
・Fewer people are waiting than the attraction can accommodate in one cycle, so you may board almost immediately.
（This is common at theater attractions and rides with high capacity.）
