To experience Mario Kart, you need a timed entry ticket (free) for Super Nintendo World. These are often only available for evening times within 1-2 hours of park opening, and distribution may end 2-3 hours after opening (in such cases, a lottery system may apply).

  • Note: The ride has strong centrifugal force. Make sure to store all your belongings in the lockers at the entrance before lining up.
  • Location: You’ll find it straight ahead and to the left from the USJ entrance gate.

Since it’s located deep in the park, wait times tend to be shorter after park opening and at night. There’s a photo spot during the ride, so pose when you exit the tunnel and see the lake on your left.

An attraction from USJ’s opening. It’s a classic that you should ride at least once when you visit.

Since it’s been around for 24 years, there are occasional issues where the shark doesn’t appear, causing anxiety over when the attraction might be retired. Ride it while you can.

  • Location: On the way to the Mario area.

Many people last visited USJ when the Harry Potter area opened, making it one of the most experienced attractions. Fly with Harry Potter through the halls of Hogwarts Castle.

This ride lets you experience scenes from the movies, and while queuing, you pass through Dumbledore’s office and rooms where Harry, Hermione, and Ron speak to you.

  • Recommended: If you’ve forgotten the movies, watching at least the first one will enhance your experience.
  • Note: This is the most likely attraction to make you dizzy at USJ. Avoid riding when tired, hungry, or right after eating.
  • Location: At the very back of the Harry Potter area. The entrance is Hogwarts Castle.
  • Estimated wait time: 1-3 hours

A magical experience with wands at Ollivanders, where you can practice spells using the wand selected for you to cast fire, snow, and water spells, is also recommended.

USJ’s No.9 Popular Attraction: WaterWorld

This show attraction features real stunts from the movies performed right in front of you. Sitting in the front row will get you soaked, even in winter. On hot days, it’s particularly recommended.

  • Recommended: There’s a warm-up act before the show starts. Make sure to get your seat early.
  • Note: There are lots of highlights, not just in front but also on the upper stage.
  • Location: Next to the entrance of Super Nintendo World
  • Wait time: Arrive about 30 minutes before the show starts to secure a spot.

■ Areas of USJ

USJ covers an area roughly equivalent to nine Tokyo Domes. It’s divided into ten areas, each about the size of a baseball field.

The park entrance and exit are located at a single point.
The red mark on the map shows the location near the entrance.

The Hollywood Area, New York Area, and Universal Wonderland are close to the entrance, with attractions available right away.

On the other hand, the Jurassic Park Area, WaterWorld, and Super Nintendo World, located farthest from the entrance, take about 8-15 minutes to reach from the entrance gate.

Since 2023, the distribution of the Studio Guide (a free park information booklet) has been discontinued, so please check the locations of the attractions in this article.

USJ is vast, so make the most of your time by navigating efficiently for a fulfilling day. Only attractions temporarily suspended are marked with [Closed]. Short-term closures due to maintenance or limited-time attractions are not listed.

How to efficiently experience recommended attractions:

On weekdays, you can enjoy up to 14 attractions with a well-planned route, including lunch and sweets breaks. Even on crowded days, you can experience at least eight attractions if you plan wisely.

What is a Greeting?

You can meet and greet characters and dancers, taking photos and enjoying special moments together.

There are scheduled greetings as well as spontaneous ones that occur at the Canopy (arcade) or beside the entrance gate.

■ 2024 Limited-Time Attractions

USJ regularly features limited-time attractions. Many of these are only available for a short period, so be sure to experience them while you can.

Merchandise is no longer sold the day after the event ends, so make sure to buy the character goods you want during the event period.

USJ’s most popular event, Halloween Horror Nights, runs from September to November. You can enjoy horror attractions, zombies roaming the streets, and dance performances.

In 2024, you can experience attractions based on Chainsaw Man, Resident Evil, and Chucky. Ado’s Blue Rose Squad, battling street zombies, also makes its debut.

Resident Evil is an outdoor attraction. A timed entry ticket is required.

Chainsaw Man is featured at the 4D theater.

When people think of USJ attractions, they often imagine ride-based attractions. Here, we introduce a variety of rides, from those suitable for children to thrilling rides for adrenaline seekers.

Mario Kart ~ Koopa’s Challenge ~

This ride is suitable for kids, including kindergarteners and elementary schoolers. It’s the most game-oriented attraction at USJ, and your game progress is saved using a Power-Up Band, allowing you to check your score and gameplay status on the official app even after you return home. You can also compete with friends on score and mission (stamp) achievements.

By wearing AR goggles, you can experience a mix of the real Mario world and game visuals, with effects like shells bouncing off real walls or hitting enemy characters. It offers a new way to enjoy theme parks.

The queue area has many highlights, like Koopa’s study, so be sure to look around while you walk through.

The pre-show before the main event is full of ad-libs and surprises, so many repeat visitors arrive early to see different performances each time. It’s highly recommended to arrive early for the best experience.
